Haiti | In the name of LOVE

I’ve been wondering and asking myself how I can help the people of Haiti. The needs are so vast. Can you imagine waking up to find your entire city was gone and half your neighbors were missing or dead? I can’t. And if I’ve learned anything during this time of unemployment it’s that truly this could be anyone of us – we are all just one blink of an eye away from being alone, homeless.

I’ve joined Photographers for Haiti. Here’s a piece written by one of the founders, Kristi Crosson:

“Where do I begin with this one? On January 12, 2010 an earthquake struck the people of Haiti and devastated the lives of millions. My first thought was that I wanted to help, but I didn’t know how to make an impact other than just giving a little extra to one of my favorite organizations, Compassion International. The next day, I saw that my friend and colleague Kelsey Bigelow was planning a mini-session to benefit an aid organization helping Haiti already. I thought that it would make a greater impact to get involved, and to get other photographers involved in doing the same thing. Photographers for Haiti was birthed out of these ideas.

Thank you for joining with us on this journey to impact the lives of others.”

As a mom, wife, daughter and sister, I had to do something. And what better way then to use my skills and make people happy. Happy about their portraits; happy about helping others. Here’s the plan. Photographers hold either a day or week of sessions. 100% of the session fee goes directly to one of four chosen charities. Of the four, I’ve selected 2: Thirst Relief which supplies clean, safe drinking water and Danita’s Children. You write your check directly to the charity. You help and get the tax deduction. Additionally, 50% of any prints or albums you buy go directly to the charity as well. We’ve been asked to hold our sessions between now and March 31, 2010 thus ensuring a continual flow of cash.

Have you been putting off getting your portraits made? How about doing it now? I’ve set aside February 13 and 14th for as many sessions as I can schedule. So how about you do it in the name of love! If I can work it, I will come to you, or have a meeting spot some place in Coppell – weather permitting. Cost of the session is $75 for up to 5 people. Sessions are limited to 1 location and 2 wardrobe changes. This does not apply to my senior portrait sessions.

This is my small way of helping. So please, won’t you join me?
